Tactics of partial closing of a position.

Very often when trading Forex you have to deal with a situation where a successful transaction, after a sharp trend reversal, becomes unprofitable.

We can only regret that the position was not closed in a timely manner, but at that moment you were thinking about how to take more profit and nothing indicated the danger of a reversal.

In such a situation, it is best to find a compromise that will allow you to make a profit and at the same time not close a promising order.

This is done by partially closing the position, without the need to open any counter orders, spreading the excess spread and making life even more difficult for yourself.

The tactic of partially closing a position involves modifying an existing order; this is done using the technical capabilities of the trader’s terminal.

The process will become more clear using a specific example:

Open a standard market order of 1 lot , immediately set a stop loss and current profit and begin to observe the development of events.

When making a profit, we move on to partially closing the position, the main thing is that the profit is at least a couple of dozen points.

In our case, let it be 40. To do this, in your trading terminal, on the “Trade” tab, there is a line with information on open orders; click on the order that you want to partially close.

After this, you will see a window in which you change the “Volume” to half the previously opened order, in our case to 0.50. If this volume is not in the prompts, simply enter the value manually.

Then click on the bottom yellow line with the inscription “Close and order parameters”.

After this, you will have an open position of only 0.5 lots. You will make a profit of 20 points, which is about $100. In order to consolidate success, you can move the stop loss on the remaining position to the break-even zone, thereby eliminating the very possibility of losses.
