Closing a position in MetaTrader without the knowledge of the trader
Over ten years of working through the MetaTrader trading platform, I have more than once encountered a situation in which previously open orders were closed without my knowledge.
Yes, you probably also have such cases when you leave a trade overnight, and in the morning you discover that the order was forcibly closed.
It turns out that there are quite a few scenarios in which your position in MetaTrader will be closed without your participation.
Moreover, forced closure does not always imply a negative financial result; situations really vary.
And so, why can your position in the trading platform close on its own:
Advisors and scripts can also cause surprises. For example, you tested a robot, and then you happily forgot about it, but it continued its work and at one point closed your deal.
Unforeseen situations - most often they happen when trading shares, when the issuer makes any transactions with its securities. For example, Tesla carried out a stock split, while many of the stock brokers forcibly closed their clients' short trades.
Triggering stop orders is perhaps the most common option, in which the transaction is closed when the stop loss, take profit or trailing stop that you set yourself is triggered.
Insurance of the broker's risks - or forced closure by the broker through a stop out , is one of the most unpleasant options. In this case, the brokerage company independently closes your order if the loss on the transaction is more than 50-90% of the amount of your deposit, the percentage varies depending on the conditions of the account.
Exchange trading is a rather risky activity, and in this work there are not only exchange rate risks, but also a lot of other situations in which you can lose your money.
