Trader Alexander Gerchik

Studying the autobiographies of successful traders allows beginners not only to gain a boost of energy and strength, but also to analyze the mistakes of their idols.

When reading almost any biography, you can identify with yourself to some extent, as all professionals were once beginners and, as a rule, had a rather difficult path to becoming a professional.

By carefully reading autobiographies and analyzing the mistakes of your idols, you can minimize unnecessary losses, as you've already encountered similar situations, even if not directly.

Trader Alexander Gerchik is one of the most prominent traders of our time, as he has been trading profitably for many years.

Alexander Gerchik is famous among traders not only for his achievements as a trader, but also for his books and his approach to teaching, in which Gerchik lays out the truth and the ins and outs of the trading world.

Hearing at a seminar that all traders are drug addicts or some other strong Russian slang is nothing more than the norm. Gerchik never promises anyone mountains of gold, but instead shares the harsh realities of the trading world. However, Gerchik, like everyone else, was once a beginner, so his biography and path to success may be of some interest.

Alexander Gerchik was born on September 13, 1971, in the sunny port city of Odessa. His family was middle-class, but like any Odessa resident, he had a truly entrepreneurial streak. The seaside, ports, and tourists—all these factors foster an entrepreneurial spirit in Odessans from childhood.

After the fall of the so-called Iron Curtain and the collapse of the USSR, Alexander decided to conquer another country in 1993 and emigrated to the United States.

First acquaintance with the stock exchange

Unlike many famous traders who conquered Wall Street, Gerchik lacked a prestigious education, even in finance, and only had a food industry technical school degree. Without any English or formal education, his only hope in the US was to work as a taxi driver, where the only qualification was a license.

Naturally, Gechik took advantage of this opportunity and fully mastered the profession. As Alexander himself recalls at his conferences, it was very difficult for him, as there were no GPS navigation systems at the time, and the language barrier with clients led to many conflicts.

However, due to the nature of his profession, Gerchik very often transported various traders and brokers to the financial district.

One day, while Gerchik was giving a trader a ride, someone asked him how old he was, and when they found out, they advised him to get acquainted with the world of finance. After a frank conversation, Alexander became more interested in the trading profession and, without hesitation, began asking his clients about how to begin training.

Having learned that a special license was required for brokerage activities in the United States, Gerchik decided to enroll in a four-month course. Upon completion, he successfully passed a challenging exam and received his long-awaited license.

Alexander spent the first six months working as a broker's assistant at a small company specializing in client fund management, or more precisely, consulting. After gaining some practical experience, Gerchik decided to change his career and joined Worldco.

Ups and downs

Worldco specialized in intraday trading, or more precisely, day trading. This style involved closing trades within a trading session (day trading), and Gerchik himself never worked in this style.

Constant stress and stupid mistakes due to a newbie's ignorance led to Alexander completely losing his deposit in three weeks. In despair, Gerchik met a Japanese trader who advised him to minimize losses by trying to trade with minimal risk, with the profits being a pleasant bonus.

A radical change in approach led to Gerchik successfully increasing his deposit from $10,000 to $5 million. Since 2003, Alexander has been the chief trader at Hold Brothers and a member of its board of directors.

In 2006, Alexander Gerchik, a well-known figure in certain circles, became a television star when he appeared on a CNBC show dedicated to stock market professionals. He emerged as the most profitable trader out of 2,000 candidates and had the longest positive track record.

Alexander Gerchik regularly conducts off-site seminars in Kyiv and Moscow, which you can register for on his official website.
