Which VPS server to choose for trading? Paid or free?
The popularity of VPS servers with the Windows operating system installed is growing every day.
It is difficult to imagine a trader who trades with the help of advisors and does not have a VPS; server data is also used to solve other problems.
For example, to provide remote access to your trading platform or when using trailing stop orders frequently.
That is, a virtual server is quite a useful thing, especially if it is provided completely free of charge.
To receive, you need to top up your account with an amount of $300 or more; the minimum top-up amount depends on the specific broker.
What's the difference between free servers provided by brokers and those you buy with your own money?
In fact, there are quite a few differences, but they still exist:
Price Depending on the hosting provider, a Windows VPS costs on average $30, while with a broker, you only get hosting for having a funded account, which you would otherwise use for trading.
Power – in most cases, brokers provide servers with minimal power and 1 gigabyte of RAM, which is quite sufficient for running advisors.
My MetaTrader 4, with indicators and an expert advisor running, uses no more than 100 megabytes of RAM and uses less than 1% of the CPU. So, there's no point in upgrading to a more expensive configuration:
Privacy is a contentious issue, generating much debate among traders.
In theory, your broker grants you full access to your free VPS and allows you to change your password if you wish. This means that without your permission, the broker's employee won't be able to access your server's personal account.
However, they remain the formal owner of the virtual server and can access the control panel by changing the password if desired. However, this is, so to speak, an exceptional case.
Purchasing a server with an operating system with your own money protects you from such situations, and if you have something to hide, it's better to pay a modest price for privacy.
So, as always, the choice is yours: a free VPS from a broker or your own from an independent provider.
I can personally recommend servers from HOSTLIFE , where I've been working for over 10 years. A VPS with Windows costs around $35 per month. For this price, you get stable hardware and, in my opinion, the best customer support.
